Gain Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity from Latest ProSoft Industrial Radio
We’re happy today to share the news that ProSoft has released its first Wi-Fi 6 industrial radio, which is ideal for large applications, including material handling and logistics facilities.
The new ProLinx Edge® Mini radio offers the reliable wireless connectivity that has defined ProSoft’s previous radios. Designed for harsh environments and busy facilities, the new radio features hitless roaming of less than 100 milliseconds. This performance enables large-scale applications featuring mobile equipment, including the automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) that are hallmarks of material handling facilities. The radio’s fast roaming technology allows for minimal interruptions, which is ideal for these applications.
One aspect we’re especially excited about is the radio’s support for Wi-Fi 6. The ProLinx Edge Mini is optimized for Wi-Fi client applications and efficient single- and multi-channel Wi-Fi connectivity of more than 300 devices per facility.
As with previous ProSoft wireless radios, the ProLinx Edge Mini is a scalable solution. You can easily add more radios to your network as your operation expands.
Why Wi-Fi?
When you think of Wi-Fi, your mind may jump to mobile-phone and Internet connectivity. However, Wi-Fi 6 especially is ideal for industrial connectivity. Benefits over 5G include:
· Outside support and management are more available for Wi-Fi technology, which is ideal for design, installation, and troubleshooting concerns that in-house personnel may need help with. This support is harder to come by for 5G and even some 4G applications.
· Wi-Fi uses public frequencies that are available everywhere, with guidelines that that ensure the frequency isn’t dominated or a connection isn’t interfered with. 5G primarily uses licensed frequencies, which offer more control – but typically require more support.
